Welcome: to Your New Glasses!

Wink Optometry team

We’re so excited you’re picking up your new pair of glasses. To help you get the most out of them, we’ve put together answers to some common questions about new prescriptions.

1. How long will it take to get used to my new glasses?

It’s normal for your eyes to need some time to adjust to new glasses, especially if your prescription has changed significantly. Give it about 1-2 weeks to fully adapt. If you’re still feeling discomfort or distortion after that, don’t hesitate to contact us.

2. Why do my new glasses feel strange or uncomfortable?

It’s common to feel a slight discomfort when first wearing new glasses. This could be due to the frames not fitting perfectly yet or your eyes adjusting to the new prescription. If discomfort persists or if you feel any pressure points on your nose or ears, please come back for a quick adjustment.

3. Why do things look blurry or distorted when I first wear them?

If you’ve switched from contact lenses or had a significant prescription change, it’s normal for your brain to need time to adjust to how you see through glasses. The distortion will usually subside after a few days as your eyes get used to the new lenses.

4. My new prescription feels different. Is this normal?

Yes, a new prescription can feel quite different, especially if there has been a significant change. Your vision should improve over time, but if things don’t seem right after a few days, please give us a call or stop by—we’ll recheck the fit and alignment to make sure everything is perfect.

5. Can I wear my glasses all the time?

We recommend wearing your glasses as prescribed, whether it’s all the time or just for specific tasks (e.g., reading, driving). If your doctor suggested wearing them all day, try to wear them consistently to get the most benefit. If you’re feeling any eye strain or headaches, let us know.

6. Should I wear my new glasses while using screens?

Yes! Many of our lenses are specially designed to help reduce eye strain during screen use. If you experience discomfort while looking at digital devices, it may be time for a lens upgrade. Ask us about options like blue light blocking lenses or computer glasses.

7. How do I care for my glasses?

Proper care will keep your glasses looking great and help your lenses last longer. Here are some tips:

Always clean your lenses with a microfiber cloth, not tissues or your shirt, which can scratch the lenses.

Use warm water and mild soap to clean the frame and lenses, then dry them with a soft cloth.

Store your glasses in the case provided to prevent damage.

Avoid leaving them in hot places like the car or near direct heat, as this can warp the frames.

8. What if my glasses feel loose or uncomfortable after wearing them for a while?

If your frames feel too loose or uncomfortable, just drop by our clinic, and we’ll adjust them for you. A good fit is essential for clear vision and comfort.

9. How often should I update my prescription?

We recommend getting an eye exam every year or as advised by your optometrist. Regular check-ups help maintain optimal eye health and ensure your prescription is up to date.

10. I’m still not satisfied with my glasses.

If you’re not satisfied with your new glasses, please contact us within 30 days, and we’ll be happy to adjust them or offer you a solution. Your satisfaction is our priority.
