experience nowAll pre-op examinations are essentially a comprehensive eye examination (dilation mandatory). The curvature and thickness of your corneas, eye pressure, photo and scan of the back of your eye are all done during pre-testing. Our optometrist will further determine your prescription pre- and post-dilation and check the health of your eyes. This will take approximately 45+ minutes.
Post-op exams are much shorter as these are just to ensure there are no complications during the healing process. Most procedures require a 1-month, 2-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 1 year follow-up after refractive surgery. The last 1 year follow-up will essentially be another full eye exam.
Annual eye exams are still needed after refractive surgery is performed to ensure the health of your eyes is maintained. People with higher prescriptions are still susceptible to retinal holes, tears, and detachments because the length/shape of the eye has not changed – only the front surface (cornea) has been altered.
